Introduction

Since nVidia released their GeForce4 line of graphics chipsets, the most anticipated and sought after of them all has been the Ti4200. You can basically say that the Ti4200 is a budget, high-end graphics chipset. Its performance is too high to be classed as budget, however, its price is too low to give it the high-end label. This is precisely the reason why the Ti4200 has become so popular - It provides high performance and can be overclocked to near-Ti4600 levels, yet it sells for half the price!

Video card manufacturers have been rather slow in bringing Ti4200-based cards to the market, as most of them decided to introduce their Ti4600/MX440 cards first, with the rest of the chipset range being released a month or so later. Now that most manufacturers have Ti4200 cards on the market or at least ready to hit the market, you can look forward to a plethora of reviews on Ti4200-based graphics cards in both online and print publications.

We recently managed to obtain two Ti4200 graphics cards - The Abit Siluro Ti4200 and the Triplex Millennium Silver GeForce4 Ti4200. Thinking it was foolish to write up separate reviews on virtually the same product, we have decided to take a look at both cards in a "shootout" style comparison - finally giving you our own opinion as to which card is more worthy of your hard-earned dollars.

Since both cards are based on the same chipset, performance is likely to be very similar if not identical. This means that manufacturers are relying on aesthetics, added features, software bundle, and most importantly, price, to make their card stand out in an already crowded market. Who comes out ahead?
