We're a bit in love with Google Glass. We're closely following along the progress made by Glass and are happy to report that it is receiving a software update that brings with it a bunch of new features. According to Google, the update brings with it a host of changes, including crash reporting.
- Change to sync policy: require power + wifi for background uploads
- Crash reporting
- Incoming G+ notifications (direct shares, comments, +mentions), including ability to comment and +1
- Incoming Hangout notifications
- Transcription of queries & messages is now wicked-fast
- Long-press to search from anywhere in the UI (no longer just from off)
- International number dialing + SMS
- Hop animation on disallowed swipes in the UI
- New On-Head Detection calibration flow
- Show device Serial Number on Device Info card
- More reliable estimation of battery charge remaining
- New recipient-list mosaic
One interesting change worth noting is that background syncing now requires the device to be on a local Wi-Fi network and plugged into power. We imagine this is to increase the rather short battery life, but can't confirm this as the reason. Other notable changes include the addition of Google+ notifications.
If you have an Explorer Edition in your possession, simply plug it into a power source and Google should take care of the rest.
Google has announced that Grandview, Missouri will join the growing list of cities in which Google Fiber will be available. This announcement comes just five days after Google announced that Shawnee, Kansas residents could expect Google Fiber to become available in the coming months and years.
Like the last announcement, the details were a bit on the light side. Residents know that they will be getting Fiber, but they don't know when. Grandview is located just south of Kansas City, the first city to get Google Fiber. This will make the expansion easy and makes logical sense as to why Google picked it for Google Fiber.
Google shows no signs of slowing down Fiber roll out. In fact, the announcements seem to be speeding up, suggesting that Google ultimately wants to be an ISP. Keep your fingers crossed that Fiber soon makes its way to your city.
Every now and again you have to take a step back and go, "Do I really belong on this planet?" This is certainly one of those moments. Police in Michigan say a woman set up a fake Facebook account so she could stalk...herself. That's right, she stalked herself and sent herself nasty messages. Better yet, she blamed them on her ex's new girlfriend.
The ABC report, embedded above, does a great job of explaining the story, but I'll add some details. According to Kent Country Sheriff's Detective Jason Russo, police investigated where the messages were coming from and it led back to her computer. She also confessed that she resorted to these actions because she couldn't get over the relationship.
Evidence shows that Nelson used her computer to set up false Facebook accounts using Kevin Haarsma's personal information. Nelson used this account to make it appear that she was being stalked and harassed by Kevin's new girlfriend by posting threatening messages.
This is the world we live in, folks.

Bethesda announced a new Wolfenstein game that has been completely re-imagined. Along with the announcement, Bethesda released a trailer for the upcoming game. We've embedded the trailer below for your viewing pleasure:
The new game will see players in control of B.J. Blazkowicz, an American war hero, in an alternative world where the Nazis came out on top in World War II. The game is set in the 1960's and will require players to take the fight to the Nazis via an impossible counter-offensive.
The game is slated to launch in the fourth quarter on PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and next-gen consoles. If we see the game at E3, we'll be sure to go hands-on.

Nikkan is reporting that the displays going into the next iPhone will go into production next month. According to the report, Sharp, LG, and Japan Display will be the companies responsible for producing the displays used in the next-generation iPhone.
It looks as though the device will be similar to the current iPhone 5 in shape and capabilities. If the next iPhone is launched under the S nomenclature, we expect it to come with an upgraded camera, processor, and not much else. We also continue to hear rumors that the device will be available in a multitude of colors.
If display production does start in June, it would line up with a projected launch date in late August to September. Of course, reports are just that: reports. This could prove to be an inaccurate report and the iPhone could launch before or after the projected time frame.
Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S4 on AT&T will be pleased to hear that they are the first to get an update to their device. Users who have already upgraded their software are reporting that the update brings with it faster performance and smoother animations.
The 21MB doesn't come with a changelog, so it's hard to definitively say what Samsung has updated in the latest version. The update should be available over-the-air, though users can also update it using Samsung's desktop Kies software. To download the OTA update, head to Settings > More > About Device > Software update
Rockstar Games has released no less than twelve new screenshots from the upcoming Grand Theft Auto V game. The graphics are really impressive, to say the least, and the new screenshots display a multitude of scenes ranging from gorgeous sunsets to high-speed chases. Take a look at one that has both:
I've never been a fan of the Grand Theft Auto series, but I'm starting to change my mind. The more I see of GTA V, the more I think its a first-day purchase for myself. What are your thoughts on the graphics? See the rest of the screenshots at the source link or in the gallery below.
Microsoft is really making a push for the next-gen Xbox. Likely trying to win back support after being second to the unveiling party, Xbox's social media marketing manager tweeted that Xbox would make a return to Gamescom at the 2013 event this summer.
My hopes are that Microsoft will get all of the details out in the open at their May 21 event, though it's starting to seem like we'll get bits and pieces of information at each of the three events. The tweet reads: "Xbox will be back at gamescom this August. 'Next chapter of Xbox gaming experience' on show. Can't wait, LOVE gamescom."
We will, of course, provide our readers the full details of Xbox's Gamescom 2013 event.
According to Business Insider, Google is planning to open retail stores specifically to sell Google Glass. This comes via a second-hand source who knows someone working with Sergey Brin to plan the Glass stores. In many ways, these stores make sense. People are going to want need to try Glass out before putting $1,500 down for their own pair.
These retail stores would focus solely on Glass. It's important that users be able to try Glass out and have it set up properly. Much like Apple's One-to-One training, Google's retail installations would help configure Glass for each user and give them an in-depth explanation of how to work it all.
As with all rumors, we encourage you to approach this with a bit of skepticism.
Google has added some "highly-requested" features to Hangouts on Air. Google warns that Hangouts could take a bit longer to start as a result of these changes. "As part of these enhancements, it may take longer to set up your Hangout On Air. For example: the 'Start broadcasting' button may be grayed out for a bit, before it turns red. Nothing to worry about, this is just us getting everything in place before you go live."
The updated features include the ability to rewind live broadcasts, access recordings of the broadcast directly after it ends, and start live broadcasts without having to refresh the page. Google details exactly what these improvements entail:
- Rewind live broadcasts. Regardless when you start watching, you can always go back to the beginning.
- Access recordings immediately after your broadcast. Once you're no longer On Air, your recording will be waiting for you on YouTube.
- Watch higher quality Hangouts On Air on the go. If you're tuning in from your mobile device, you'll notice better-looking video.
- Start live broadcasts without having to refresh. When you visit a page with a Hangout On Air (like Events or YouTube), the video will begin playing as soon as the show starts -- no refresh required.
Pictures of a super thin mobile device have leaked out and rumors suggest the device could be the Huawei P6-U06. The P6-U06 was first seen in a TENAA filing--the China equivalent of the US' FCC--last week. At the time, many were impressed with the 6.18mm thickness spec, an incredible achievement by any measure--pardon the pun.
There is no way to verify if these pictures are the real deal, but they seem to match up with the TENAA filing. The device looks somewhat similar to the iPhone 5, albeit quite a bit thinner. It features a metal band around a sleek black device. We're still waiting for an official confirmation from Huawei, which will likely come sooner rather than later.

Syria, a country currently engaged in a large civil war, has dropped off of the Internet...again. This isn't the first time Syria has had its Internet connectivity drop to near zero. It's widely suspected that this latest Internet disconnect has been caused by the Syrian government.
The outage has been ongoing since around 2:45pm ET. Almost four hours later, Syria still doesn't have connectivity. The only people who seem to still have access to the web are activists who can afford a satellite Internet link, which isn't many. Google's Transparency Report is documenting the outage.
Electronic Arts has reported its fourth-quarter earnings. EA did fairly well, meeting some analyst predictions. The gaming company reported fourth-quarter revenues of $1.04 billion, exactly matching predictions by analysts. However, its earnings-per-share were not quite as high as analysts predicted.
EA reported earnings-per-share of $0.55. Analysts expected the gaming giant to report EPS of $0.58. Interestingly, this miss hasn't hurt EA's stock price. In fact, EA's stock price has increased by about seven percent in after-hours trading. This is probably a result of EA's strong mobile performance and the multi-year exclusive Star Wars contract signed with Disney yesterday.
EA executive chairman Larry Probst:
As we enter a new fiscal year, EA is well-positioned for dynamic growth on next generation consoles, PCs, and mobile platforms. With world-class games, a rapidly growing digital business, and top-notch creative talent, we are excited about EA's strategy for FY 2014 and beyond.
It looks as though Google Now may soon be gracing Mac systems. Code has been ported over to the Chromium project for Mac OS X and seems to indicate that Mac OS X will soon be getting access to Google Now. This same code was introduced into Chromium for Windows and Chrome Canary, but was limited to Windows OS.
The Google Now system is believed to rely heavily on the notification center. According to Google Evangelist Beaufort, the notification center for Mac is still "under heavy development." The Windows version of Google Now still isn't fully implementede; you need to know the secret URL to enable it.
It shouldn't be too much longer before both systems get access to Google Now, though the usefulness of it may be slightly less as you won't be using it on a constantly mobile device.
Nokia has posted up an official teaser for their rumored Lumia 928. We've been hearing chatter and rumors about the Lumia 928 for several months, but haven't had much official to go on. Now, however, Nokia has released an official teaser ad designed to pique our interest in the device...and it's worked.
The above image appears on the official Nokia site at a URL including "lumia928." We hope that this means Nokia is getting close to releasing the device. It's rumored to feature a 4.5-inch 1280x778 OCTA AMOLED display. It will be, of course, running Windows 8. It will also come with PureView branding and a Carl Zeiss lens.
There has been a lot of talk about Microsoft's upcoming update known as Windows Blue. Julie Larson-Green confirmed on stage at the Wired Business Conference that the Windows Blue update is coming later this year, though a specific release time was not provided.
Larson-Green announced that a public preview of the update will be made available during the BUILD conference taking place at the end of June. This will allow the public to get their hands on the update and provide feedback.
Tami Reller:
Windows Blue is a codename for an update that will be available later this year, building on the bold vision set forward with Windows 8 to deliver the next generation of tablets and PCs. It will deliver the latest new innovations across an increasingly broad array of form factors of all sizes, display, battery life and performance, while creating new opportunities for our ecosystem. It will provide more options for businesses, and give consumers more options for work and play. The Windows Blue update is also an opportunity for us to respond to the customer feedback that we've been closely listening to since the launch of Windows 8 and Windows RT. From a company-wide perspective, Windows Blue is part of a broader effort to advance our devices and services for Microsoft.
We'll be sure to update you when the public preview is made available in late June.
A new rumor has surfaced that says the next Microsoft Xbox will be called the Xbox Infinity. For the past several months, we, along with most, have been calling the next-gen Xbox the Xbox 720. If this rumor proves to be true, it would be the second time Microsoft has changed its naming scheme.
The above logo leaked out on Reddit and is said to be the logo for the upcoming Xbox. We will hopefully know if Infinity is the new Xbox name on May 21 when Microsoft hosts its Xbox event in Redmond. If not then, we should find out at Microsoft's E3 event taking place June 10.
According to a CNet report, Nicole Wong, Twitter's current legal director, has been tapped to become the White House's first chief privacy officer. Prior to joining Twitter, Wong served as a vice president and deputy general counsel for Google. She, along with her team, reviewed products before they launched, checking for privacy, copyright, and removal request compliance.
She has experience in the field of privacy and will report to Todd Park, the chief technology officer for President Obama. Wong's law degree was earned at the University of California at Berkeley. After earning her degree, she made partner at Perkins Coie law firm.
Twitter was rated 3.5/4 stars by the EFF in their latest "Who has your back?" survey.
We've been hearing a lot about the upcoming NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 and GTX 770. Just within the past day, we posted about a CPU-Z validation that listed the GTX 780 as the card being used. So we have a feeling the card exists. And what do you know, pictures have leaked out!
Take a look at what is purported to be the GTX 780 and GTX 770. These cards share similar styling to the recently released GTX Titan and the GTX 780 is said to be positioned just below the Titan. It relies on the same GK110 silicon as the Titan and will likely feature a similar PCB. The GTX 770, however, is based upon the GK104.
We still don't have full confidence that these are the cards, but there are some signs that point to a legitimate leak. For instance, differences near the PCIe interface suggest that the picture is not a fake. As with all rumors and leaks, take it with a grain of salt until official information is released.
This afternoon The Next Web is reporting that Aaron Greenspan has filed suit against not only Mark Zuckerberg, but a handful of other tech giants over so-called "money services businesses." The documents were filed on May 6th making this the latest in a long line of lawsuits filed by Greenspan.
