Johannes Knapp just attended a Nokia press conference for us over in Germany where he got some solid hands-on time with the new Nokia Lumia 925 Windows Phone 8 smartphone.
He compared the 925 in size to the older Lumia 920 and noted that he is much more impressed with the 925 for its sized and appearance, as well as feel in hand with its brushed aluminum feel.
One of the main features of the Lumia 925 is its 8.7MP PureView camera (Carl Zeiss powered) which includes some rather impressive software to create pretty remarkable photos. The one photo feature Johannes focused on was action mode. It takes a series of photos and stitches them together to create some pretty awesome results.

Intel's new CEO Brian Krzanich is shaking things up at the chip manufacturing giant. Under his recent reorganization, all of the company's product groups now fall under his direct supervision. Corporate Strategy and Global Manufacturing will now be headed up by company president Renee James. Intel's software division will be controlled by Doug Fisher, and its smartphone division will be headed up by Hermann Eul.
In an internal email to Intel employees, Krzanich said:
"As your CEO, I am committed to making quick, informed decisions. I am committed to being bolder, moving faster and accepting that this means changes will be made knowing that we will listen, learn and then make adjustments in order to keep pace with a rapidly changing industry. Our business faces significant challenges, and we simply must continue to execute while finalizing our future strategy"
The entire world is talking about the upcoming PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at the moment, and rightfully so. It has been many years since we have had a console hardware refresh. Unfortunately some of those involved with the new console seem to have slipped into some sort of false reality.
In a comment on LinkedIn, Electronic Art's Vice President and CTO Rajat Teneja said that Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are "a generation ahead of the highest end PC on the market." He went on to say "The compute capabilities of these platforms and the data transfer speeds we can now bank on, essentially removes any notion of rationing of systems resources for our game engines. Our benchmarks on just the video and audio performance are 8-10 times superior to the current gen. gaming pc systems."
I am going to speculate that Mr. Teneja was speaking about the semi-custom AMD APU that is running in both systems, and that part of his rationing is based on both chips having Unified Memory Access.
Call me biased if you want, but if he seriously thinks that graphics performance is better on an APU based system compared a PC running an 8-core CPU, 32GB of RAM and NVIDIA GeForce GTX TITAN, then it may be time for EA to seek out a new Chief Technology Officer.
Everyone always complains about the amount of data that Google collects from our searches and for the most part, there is nothing to be concerned with. While Google does use that data for targeted ad placement, they also use it to improve their products and create exciting new things.
This morning Google released one of those new exciting things, and they are calling it the "Trend Visualizer". The new web app is a full screen real-time wall of the most popular searches entered by people all over the US.
The actual effect is pretty trippy and while it may not be of use to everyone, it would be really cool to toss up on a large screen display in an office or workroom.
This morning NVIDIA launched its next flagship GPU, the GeForce GTX 780. The 780 keeps all the styling cues of the massively popular GTX TITAN and features several hardware improvements that make it one of the fastest single GPU video cards ever. Go ahead and review our very own TweakTown review right here.
NVIDIA says that the GK110-powered GeForce GTX 780 has 50% more memory and 50% more CUDA cores than the GeForce GTX 680, and is on average 35% faster than its predecessor. NVIDIA also launched a new real-time gaming recorder called GeForce ShadowPlay, an application that lets gamers record their gameplay in 1080p at 30 FPS.
"With more memory bandwidth, more VRAM, more CUDA Cores, and more all-round speed, the GTX 780 is the high-end GPU of choice for the next-generation of games, arriving on shop shelves this Holiday. Paired with a recent Quad Core CPU, GTX 780 owners will exceed the level of fidelity and performance seen on upcoming consoles, guaranteeing superior experiences in the coming wave of multi-platform next-gen titles, beginning with Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Watch_Dogs."
Late last night Kim Dotcom posted a tweet that accused several US companies of infringing on his IP and after some investigation, I have to agree with him. The patents date back to 1997 and cover the two-step authentication that has recently become popular with big sites who are afraid of hackers.
In the tweet, Dotcom accuses Google, Facebook, Twitter and Citibank of infringing on his patent and he says that he never sued them in the past because he "believes in sharing knowledge and ideas for the good of society." and goes on to say "But I might sue them now because of what the U.S. did to me."
For anyone interested, I have linked to the patent at Source #2. It was filed under Kim Schmits, Dotcom's birth name, and details quite clearly the current method of two-step authentication being used today by many companies. We have reached on to Dotcom for an interview and are awaiting a response, so stay tuned to TweakTown for any updates.
The GeForce GTX 780 was just announced by NVIDIA, and is virtually the same power as NVIDIA's GeForce GTX Titan, but for a hell of a lot less money. iBUYPOWER have come out announcing that NVIDIA's latest Kepler-based GPU, the GeForce GTX 780, is now available for their performance gaming systems.
Darren Su, Co-Founder and Vice President of iBUYPOWER has said: "We always stay on the forefront of performance, and equipping our systems with the latest graphics technologies allows us to give our customers the best possible experience". For more information on the iBUYPOWER systems with the GeForce GTX 780, check out iBUYPOWER's website.
If you were expecting Apple to unveil a watch-like device, something along the lines of an iWatch, then you might have to wait until late 2014 according to a KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo says that Apple "may not have adequate resources" to develop a version of iOS for the wearable device, which might be the reason behind iOS 7.
Kuo thinks that Apple will cram a 1.5- to 2-inch screen, as well as biometric security thanks to their acquisition of AuthenTec for $356 million. This delay until late 2014 could really hurt Apple's chances of their wearable device being successful, especially if other companies beat them to the punch.
We've been hearing so much about the Xbox One this week, but now we have confirmation from AMD that they are the ones that helped Microsoft design the "semi-custom single-chip" APU that powers the next-gen Xbox One.
The Xbox One features an APU that includes an 8-core processor, GPU and 8GB of RAM on the single-chip. The GPU on the Xbox One is still shrouded in mystery, and is definitely a strange move by Microsoft considering how open Sony are about the specifications on the PlayStation 4.
During the Xbox One reveal we learned that Microsoft is working tightly with the NFL, but according to an Associated Press source the deal is worth $400 million over five years. Fans of NFL will see Microsoft branding on-field during live games starting this upcoming season.
The deal goes deeper, with coaches and other team officials will be provided Microsoft Surface tablets. There's also the possibility of further technological innovations coming from Microsoft throughout the longevity of the deal.
Here's a scary number: 99.9% of new mobile malware detected in Q1 2013 was designed to attack Android-based phones according to a new report released on Kaspersky Labs. Most of these arrive in the form of trojan viruses.
This also includes SMS trojans, which steal money by sending unauthorized texts to premium rate numbers, which are the most common with 63% of total infections. Kaspersky noticed a huge surge in mobile malware for the first quarter of 2013, with the three-month period seeing around half of the total number of malware that the entire of 2012 saw. kas
Sony's redesigned DualShock 4 controller has arrived at the FCC, showing where the FCC label is going to be placed. The details on the DualShock 4 shows that that PS4 controller is a Bluetooth 2.1 EDR device, with the model number of CUH-ZCT1U.
You can also see the PS Eye-compatible light bar on the DualShock 4, too. What I wish this FCC details were on is the PS4 itself, but that shouldn't be too long away. E3 is right around the corner, and we'll be covering it like crazy.
SimCity's 4.0 update launches tomorrow and will include re-enabled features, new areas and additional fixes. After the update, global market prices now "dynamically" change, with region filters and leaderboards will be back.
The 4.0 update will also include some graphical, messaging and weather updates. The two new areas are Edgewater Bay which is a region with seven city sites in a single cluster, and the second new area is the SimCity Launch Park which is an area designed for fans that will be available exclusively for "early adopters".
Sony are in a bad position right now, but now there are rumors floating around that the Japanese company are thinking about selling the films rights to Spider-Man and Resident Evil. The news comes from The Register who says:
Chief exec Kazuo Hirai told reporters from the Financial Times, Reuters and others that the company's board was discussing the plan to sell a portion of its entertainment biz, suggested last week by the firm's largest investor, Loeb's Third Point hedge fund. [Activist investor Daniel] Loeb said he wants the ailing Japanese firm to spin off 15 to 20 per cent of its film and music division in a public offering to raise money for its electronics and turn the entertainment business into a separately listed firm. The fund manager's suggestions carry new weight after revealing that he had increased Third Point's stake in Sony to $1.1bn.
It does get a little hot after, with Sony Pictures' boss, Amy Pascal, talking to Ain't It Cool News saying that none of this is actually true:
Amy said that she would 'Never ever ever' let go of SPIDER-MAN. She feels the property is directly tied to her legacy and time at SONY. Not just that, she is really thrilled by the work on the new film.

During the Xbox One reveal, Infinity Ward were proud to show off their next-generation Call of Duty: Ghosts. The developer has come out today confirming that COD: Ghosts will be hitting the PS4, even though we already knew it would be reaching "next-generation platforms" when they announced it, the full confirmation is now here.
The announcement was made on Twitter, where Infinity Ward confirmed that both the PS3 and PS4 would see the next-gen FPS. According to Activision, Call of Duty: Ghosts "delivers a riveting all-new gameplay experience built on an entirely new story, setting and cast of characters, all powered by a new, next generation Call of Duty engine that redefines the series for the next generation".
I don't know about you, but I saw nothing that impressed me. I think Battlefield 4 looks far superior, and you know you're in a bad place when Infinity Ward have to brag about the detail on dogs and the ability to jump over obstacles, because you know, we don't have that already with Battlefield 3.
I was very underwhelmed with the Xbox One event, and even more so with Call of Duty: Ghosts. I expected it to launch up to the same playing field of Battlefield 4 (or even at least BF3) when it comes to graphics, but I was very disappointed.
I didn't watch the trailer again because I wasn't interested, but I've done some reading since and found that someone noticed there was a very big mistake when it came to Ghosts' lighting system. As you can see from the below image, the sun is to the right, and there are sun shafts to the left, indicating that the sun is beaming down from the left. Well, this is a huge problem as it shows that Infinity Ward have been creating Ghosts from the ground up, ready for next-gen consoles, with a fake trailer.
If Infinity Ward were trying to impress their fans, I understand, but one would think the company is big enough they don't need to use graphical tricks to impress. Why not just make their graphics engine great, instead of trying to fake it.
Less than a month after the Galaxy S4 went on sale, Samsung are proud to announce their latest Android-based flagship smartphone has passed 10 million global channel sales. This figure sets a new record for Samsung's lineup of smartphones, too.
The Galaxy S III took 50 days to reach 10 million sales, and the S II took five months. Samsung have said that they are selling four Galaxy S4's each and every second - astounding! Samsung aren't stopping there either, as the South Korean electronics giant is planning new colors for the S4 in the summer, which will include "Blue Arctic," "Purple Mirage," "Red Aurora," and "Brown Autumn".
It looks like Sprint might finally be getting a win when it comes to getting a cool new device. An FCC filing has confirmed that Google's X Phone will indeed be coming to Sprint. The model number XT1056 carries support for LTE on band 25, giving away the fact that this device is destined for Sprint's LTE network.
The FCC filing reveals that the X Phone will be sporting NFC, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and LTE. Rumors say the device will come with a dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and it will almost definitely come with an unmolested version of Android. AT&T and Verizon are both getting their own models, the XT1058 and XT1060, respectively.
Facebook is so yesterday. The hip site among teenagers is Tumblr, at least according to a Pew Research study. The study says that teenagers are looking for a more "real" experience that isn't offered by Facebook and Twitter. Furthermore, teens are acutely aware that their parents are now on Facebook and monitoring their activities.
By switching over to Tumblr, these teens are looking to escape the drama, watchful parents, and "unnecessary pictures" that are ever-present on Facebook. Several teenagers were interviewed during a Pew Research focus group:
Anonymous female, age 15:
I have a Facebook, a Tumblr, and Twitter. I don't use Facebook or Twitter much. I rather use Tumblr to look for interesting stories. I like Tumblr because I don't have to present a specific or false image of myself and I don't have to interact with people I don't necessarily want to talk to.
Anonymous male, age 18:
OK, here's something I want to say. I think Facebook can be fun, but also it's drama central. On Facebook, people imply things and say things, even just by a like, that they wouldn't say in real life."
It will be important for Yahoo to keep Tumblr fairly intact or the company risks creating another Facebook.
