Just about 10 years ago Final Fantasy X and X-2 were beginning development, and a man by the name of Yoshinori Kitase was brought on to serve in the roll of producer for the now legendary games. This morning on the official PlayStation blog, Kitase announced that both games would be getting a North America refresh in HD.
On the blog, Kitase posted:
Around 10 years ago, I was given the privilege of taking on the role of Producer on FINAL FANTASY X and FINAL FANTASY X-2. Just in time for PAX East, I am excited to announce that FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster will be coming to North America this year for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita... I invite you all to once again join Tidus and Yuna as they combat the colossal menace known as "Sin" to bring about lasting peace to the world of Spira - all in gorgeous HD!

Smartphone information leaks are becoming more prevalent than the actual PR that manufacturers pay someone to create. Today the infamous @evleaks posted some very official looking images of ZTE's upcoming second flagship, the Grand X Quad.
The images show a sleek looking Android phone that has a white battery cover. That is about as much information as one can gather from the photo other than what appears to be an 8MP camera.
The Grand X Quad is reportedly going to feature a 5-inch 720p gap-less display, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, dual-SIM support and a removable 2500mAh battery. While similar to its big brother, the Grand S, we assume that the Grand X will be sold at a cheaper price point, which should make it quite the popular phone.
Archos announced today that it has launched its long awaited Gamepad in the US after more than a month of delays. The Android Jelly Bean powered gaming tablet is capable of running most games in the Google Play store and features controls off to each side.
The Gamepad houses a 1.6GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processor, but has just 1GB of RAM. Like most of the cheaper Android tables on the market, graphics crunching is handled by a quad-core Mali 400MP GPU. Internal storage is decent at 8GB with a micro SD card slot that can provide up to 64GB of additional storage.
A 1.2MP front facing camera along with a 2MP rear handle all your imaging needs, while the 1024x600 screen serves up all that Android gaming goodness. Coming in at 0.3-inches thick, the $179 Gamepad will appeal to some who just enjoy casual gaming, but do not expect it to perform on the level that something like Razer's Edge does.
Fujifilm has just shown off two new cameras that will be added to its FinePix lineup in later this spring. One is aimed at the adventurer who finds themselves in or around water, while the other is more geared towards the higher end point and shoot market.
The funky looking FinePix XP200 is encased in a protective housing that makes it waterproof up to a depth of 50 feet, and has the added bonus of making it impact resistant. A 16MP CMOS sensor with a 28-140mm lens gives the camera an effective zoom length of 5X. The Wi-Fi equipped XP200 is capable of full HD video and 10 frames per second of continuous shooting.
A 16MP BSI CMOS sensor is at the core of the FinePix S8400W and offers a huge 24-1,056mm lens which equates to 44x zoom. An aperture of f/2.9 - 6.5 combined with an ISO range up to 12,800 ensures that you are always gathering as much light as possible for the best images possible. The S8400W is capable of HD video at 60FPS at 1080i and super slow motion capture at 480FPS.
The S8400W features Wi-Fi connectivity, macro mode with a focusing distance of just 0.39-inches, and an auto focus system that is capable of sharpening things up in less than 1/3 of a second. Both camera's will go on sale in May with the S8400W being priced at $350 and then XP200 coming in at a mere $300.
The US Department of Defense (DoD) has just placed an order with Apple for over 600,000 iDevices to help supplement its arsenal. This huge purchase comes at a time of major budgetary cuts, a sequester which equates to $85 billion in lost spending.
Electronista first broke the news earlier today which detailed over 650,000 Apple devices being ordered. Included in the order were 120k iPads, 100k iPad minis, 200k iPod touches and 2010k iPhones. By my reasoning, that could amount to more than a $250 million payday for Apple.
Before everyone grabs their pitchforks and torches, the US Government has been looking to move from its antiquated BlackBerry devices to something new for some time now. This is most likely the first wave of a transition to iOS based devices and likely not the last major order we will see.
The wait is finally over. Those in the United States who have been waiting for months to sink their teeth into some BlackBerry Z10 goodness can now do so at an AT&T store near you.
BlackBerry released its first generation smartphone two months ago in the UK and Canada, but carrier testing held up a state side launch until this morning. AT&T is the first to bring the new BlackBerry Z10 to the US consumer. Pricing starts at $199 with a new two year contract.
Those of you who would like a BlackBerry Z10, but would rather avoid AT&T, will have to wait until March 27th when T-Mobile releases the Z10, or from Verizon the next day on March 28th.

We have a birdy close to our ear telling us to expect a new player on the block soon, Raijintek. Raijintek will be unveiling a bunch of products in the high-end cooling, high-end PSU and chassis markets.
Raijintek's devices are designed in Germany, and made in Taiwan. There's not much more to tell than the tease, but be sure we'll be reporting on the products they release in the coming months. Their website will be up in the next 3-4 weeks, but for now they have a Facebook page you can check out.
You've probably never heard of Total, but what they're digging around the world to find you most likely use - oil and gas. Total are one of the world's major oil and gas groups, and on March 25 they will announce they're working with SGI for their new supercomputer.
SGI will be helping Total out with their SGI ICE X HPC system as the platform for its Total's new supercomputer named "Pangea." The companies will work together on Pangea, hoping to allow for more efficient upstream oil and gas exploration, as well as the discovery of reserves under challenging geological conditions. The new supercomputer will help scientists develop more complete visualizations of seismic landscapes over time, which will provide them with a better idea of what is happening beneath the Earth's surface.
Pangea is quite capable, delivering performance of up to 2.3 PFLOPS - considering the world's fastest supercomputers are only 10x faster than that - it still makes Pangea mighty fast. Pangea's unique computing architecture is based over 110,000 calculation cores, 7PB of storage, and an innovative cooling system that is intertwined with the processors. Power requirements sit at 2.8mW.
While addressing the House of Representatives committee on IT pricing today, Adobe Australia and New Zealand managing director, Paul Robson, was questioned about the higher prices in Australia for their Creative Suite 6 software.
Considering Adobe charge Australians a not so down under 167% more, the question is a very big one to answer. Australians are paying $3175 compared to their US friends paying just $1899 for CS6. Robson said that consumers in Australia were paying the extra costs because they were automatically redirected to Adobe's Australian website, giving them the ability to access local discounts and community groups.
Robson didn't explain exactly why Australians pay more for Adobe software, saying that Adobe's use of Australian-only pricing or "geoblocking" was a "well established and legal process".

Nearly 48 hours ago, South Korea saw a cyber attack that took down multiple banks and TV stations. It's now being reported that the cyber attack wiped the HDDs of the affected PCs, according to McAfee's analysis on the attack.
The PCs were infected by malware, wiping the master boot record (MBR) of the affected PCs. The MBR on a HDD contains crucial information on how the file systems on a HDD are organized, messing with this can take down a system easily. The malware used overwrote the data in the MBR with some weird characters: "PRINCPES, PR!NCPES, HASTATI." The attack also overwrote some random parts of the file system with the same weird characters.
The systems affected were then given a forced reboot command, but because the MBR and file system were attacked and thus corrupted, the restart was unable to complete.
We know that Apple are working on a smart watch, but now their biggest competitor in the mobile OS department is reportedly joining the wearable computing rumors.
The Financial Times have a source who has said that Google is looking at entering the smart watch market, but the device isn't being worked on by their X Labs department, but rather their Android department. There's no concrete information to go on here, but it would be an Android-powered smart watch according to The Financial Times' sources.
I'm sure we'll see Google put all of their power into Glass first, as that is going to be their true moment in the spotlight.

Battlefield 4 is set to be unveiled next week, but DICE have released another teaser video 'Prepare 4 Battle: Sea'. This video shows off some undeniable evidence that some form of water vehicles will be in the game, hopefully submarines.
As you can see, it's a very quick tease, but enough to get gamers salivating for the next installment in the Battlefield series. What do you think it'll end up being? A submarine? I hope so. Hopefully we get some big changes with Battlefield 4, as the foundation that its predecessor left it is quite stable right now.redecessor left it is quite stable right now.
NVIDIA have announced the first ever GeForce eSports World of Tanks Open Tournament, with gamers competing to win NVIDIA GPUs and a shot at the $100,000 total prize pool. Pre-registration is now open, with team and player registration opening up its doors on March 28 for two weeks. Head of Community and Wargaming in North America, Kevin Van Ness, has said:
World of Tanks really strikes a chord with players looking for that ultimate competitive gaming experience, thanks to its team-based gameplay and strategic action. We're looking forward to combining our world-class community with the world-class expertise of NVIDIA for this exciting event.
Five regions are open to enter the World of Tanks tournament, China, APAC, the Americas, Russia and Europe. The five regional finalists will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the Grand Finals, which will be announced at a later date. All tournament matches are seven-person teams playing the best of three game matches.
There should be at least four weeks of group play, with the top players from each group moving onto the double-elimination championship brackets.
I wish this were me doing the video, but I'll continue to dream for now. The team at Oculus have received their first Rift off the production line, and have done a nice unboxing video for the world.
They've also taken the time to announce through the Oculus blog that developer kits will begin shipping to the earliest Kickstarter backers by March 29. Once the dev kit ships to the backer, they'll receive an e-mail confirmation so that they can track their Rift as it is shipping to their door. Oculus expect to deliver between 1000-1500 units per week until they've fulfilled all of their orders.
The Oculus Rift developer kit comes with a plethora of goodies, including:
- 1x Rift Development Kit + Control Box (6ft cable)
- 1x Hard-Shell Case
- 1x 3ft Mini USB Cable
- 1x 3ft DVI Cable
- 1x 3ft HDMI Cable
- 1x 6ft HDMI Cable
- 1x HDMI / DVI Adapter
- 3x Pairs of Lens Cups (Focal Adjustment)
- 1x Power Cord with Adapter
- 3x International Plug Adapters
It's great to see Oculus taking care of international users, including 3 international plug adapters. It's these little things that show they're listening to users, and helping out in anyway they can to make developing on the Rift as easy as possible.

Adding to the growing pile of resignations and upper-echelon members of the technology industry is the rumor that Federal Communications Commission Chairman, Julius Genachowski, will announce he will step down from his position.
The news is coming from an FCC official, who says Genachowski is stepping down from the agency after a four-year term that saw him focus on improving Internet access across the United States. The FCC chairman told FCC staff of his plans earlier today, according to an industry source. His exit from the FCC has been rumored for weeks, with his term set to expire in June.
Possible replacements for Genachowski are Lawrence Strickling, the head of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, Karen Kornbluh, the recent ambassador for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and finally, Blair Levin, who is a former FCC staff member and now industry analyst.
Samsung may be getting ready to launch their Galaxy S4, but this doesn't stop them from working on a thousand and one other devices, especially in the very lucrative emerging markets.Samsung may be getting ready to launch their Galaxy S4, but this doesn't stop them from working on a thousand and one other devices, especially in the very lucrative emerging markets.
Samsung have plenty of devices in the low- to mid-range market, such as the Galaxy S3 Mini, but they're also wanting to hit the super low-end emerging markets, such as India and Indonesia. These markets are pretty much controlled by feature phones, with Samsung clawing considerable amounts of the market share with devices in the sub-$100 market.
The Wall Street Journal has reported that the South Korean electronics giant has seen their market share in Indonesia rise from just 2% in 2010, to a market-dominating 50% in the last quarter.

One source is reporting that Frommer's will no longer be selling print versions of the book. The brand name was acquired by Google last August for $22 million, though Google declined to comment on the future of the series at the time. Skift is reporting that no future Frommer's books will be printed.
The source says that the last two Frommer's books to be printed were from the Day-by-Day series, specifically the Napa and Sonoma and Banff and the Rockies versions. The source reportedly spoke with authors who were supposed to be having travel books published in the future.
Some of the authors stated that they were informed by editors at Google that the books would not be published, while other authors were told that there would be a delay before new contracts were signed.
Wiley's Unofficial Guide series was sold to Google and this series will continue in print and eBook form. "The Unofficial Guides will continue to be published in print and also be available as eBooks. The creators of the Unofficial Guides, Menasha Ridge Press, will enjoy greater autonomy and editorial control than under Wiley."
J.D. Power and Associates' new study shows that Apple leads the pack when it comes to consumer satisfaction. This is the ninth time in a row that Apple has topped J.D. Power's survey, though not everything remains the same. Second place is in fierce contention by four different manufacturers.
Apple is the only company to be above the study average, coming in with a score of 855. Just one point behind the study average, Nokia comes in at a satisfaction rating of 795. Samsung pulls a close third with a score of 793. Just behind Samsung is Motorola with a score of 792. HTC brings up the rear with a score of 790.
Once you move down the list, the scores drop off. LG received a score of 744 and BlackBerry only scored 732. Interestingly enough, about 17 percent of those surveyed said that they encountered some sort of bug or glitch. Bugs and glitches really detract from the user experience and companies should probably focus heavily in these areas.
