AMD refreshes mid-range Radeon lineup

By: (more) | Video Cards News | Posted: Sep 10, 2008 11:00 am

AMD lets loose its latest generation of mid-range graphics cards under the new 4600 Series today, these comprising two models dubbed the HD 4650 and HD 4670. We first made mention of the 4670 a short time ago with a leaked picture of Sapphire's variant.

The slightly lower spec'd RV730 based 4650 comes with 512MB DDR2 memory whilst the 4670 can be purchased with either 512 or 1GB GDDR3 memory and of course has higher clockspeeds. Pricing is said to be between $69-$89 USD.

A third entry-level card will be launched towards the end of this month, dubbed the HD 4550, followed by an even lower spec'd HD 4350 variant in mid October at a price point well below $50 USD.

With the 4600 series having been kicked off today, coverage on what the cards have to offer has started popping up around the web. You can find it all via the below links :-

We'll continue to update the listing of coverage through the day.

Yours truly :-
While I had heard about the HD 4670 for a while and that it was going to be a 9500 GT DDR3 killer, I as usual didn't really process it all until just the other day when the card arrived. What we need to find out today is how the card performs, what it offers and also what happens when we put two of these $79 USD cards together. Before we get stuck into all that, though, let's have a look at the package Sapphire has put together.

With two HD 4670 cards in hand, what we will do today is compare the card against the 9500 GT DDR3 which sits in the same price bracket. Since we do have two that we will Crossfire, we will also throw the HD 4850 into the mix to see how two of these cards perform against it; just to give us an idea of what's going on.
