NVIDIA GTX 260 Core 216 makes waves against AMD
We've reported, rather extensively, on NVIDIA's planned GTX 260 response to AMD's HD 48xx series.
The GTX 260 Core 216 has been ushered in, with much fanfare, today and has set about surpassing not only its 192 stream processor predecessor, but AMD's RV770 powered HD 4870 too.

Whilst the GTX 260 Core 216 features an increase in the number of stream processors against those found in the original GTX 260 offering, it is still manufactured on a 65nm process. It is expected, however, that it will be gifted with a 55nm refresh at some point and still, the 65nm powerhouse is no slouch and improves its predecessors performance by roughly 5 to 7% in gaming tests, according to accounts.
As is customary, NVIDIA's latest offering has been subjected to many an evaluation, across the Internet today.
Anandtech, has made a thorough analysis of the GTX 260 Core 216, whilst HotHardware, for example, was particularly taken with the GTX 260's refresh, awarding it with a Recommended award.
Whilst making a positive impact in the performance stakes, NVIDIA has been criticised for its naming scheme. Whilst AIBs are attempting to brand their GTX 260 Core 216 SKUs accordingly, ensuing confusion when purchasing GTX 260 parts is expected to follow.
