T-Mobile has finally launched the first Google Android phone called the G1 to a crowd of bloggers and journalists in NYC - it's a HTC Dream on the inside.

T-Mobile G1 officially launched in New York

T-Mobile's CTO confirmed that the device would see its retail launch on October 22nd in the USA and cost a rather attractive $179 USD.

Existing T-Mobile customers will be able to change plans online and they'll set you back $25 for unlimited data and some messages and $35 for unlimited data and text. Customers in the UK will be able to get their hands on the G1 in November and other European countries in the first quarter of 2009.

Engadget got an early hands-on of the device and Gizmodo has a video walkthrough showing what they are calling a smooth user interface.
