Gigabyte puts pedal to GTX 260 OC metal

Gigabyte has unleashed its GTX 260 OC SKU, powered by NVIDIA's GTX 260 Core 216 GPU, today.

It appears that the company is aiming to differentiate this 216 stream processor part, from its 192 stream processor predecessor, by using the 'OC' moniker and, invariably, we did suspect that such confusion would occur thanks to NVIDIA's troublesome naming scheme for its GTX 260 refresh.

Despite the 'OC' moniker then, there is no mention of the part shipping with any form of factory overclock and hence, the quoted 5 to 10% performance boost over previous GeForce GTX 260 SKUs, comes solely from the additional 24 stream processors that the GTX 260 Core 216 has been endowed with.

Gigabyte's offering ships with the expected 896 MB of GDDR3 memory and the usual slew of features to be expected on a card of this calibre.

Availability and pricing information was not forthcoming, at the time of going to press.
