NVIDIA shift GeForce 9x00 series to GT1x0

By: (more) | Video Cards News | Posted: Sep 29, 2008 3:16 am

Word has come out as to how NVIDIA plans to attack the naming of their next-gen mid-range graphics cards. In a fashion that's typical of their methods when looking at how they handled the whole 8800/9800 switchover, that same 55nm G92b core will continue to be pumped out, making its way across to the new GeForce G1x0 series.

NVIDIA intends to extend its life across no less than five new cards, this time gearing down to the "mid-range" segment of todays generation where GTX2x0 controls the top end.

The cards comprise a GeForce GT150, GeForce GT140, GeForce GT130, GeForce GT120 and GeForce G100, none of which we have exact specs on just yet (apart from the use of the age old G92 core). But it won't be long before we find out as they are slated for a release of mid-October.

Once this occurs, NVIDIA plan to phase out the GeForce 8800 series cards whilst the 9x00 series cards will be replaced altogether.

With intent to stay with the new GeForce 'G' series naming across all future models, GT will cover the performance segment while GS looks after the mainstream market.
