AMD/ATI adds Radeon HD 4830 into the mix

By: (more) | Video Cards News | Posted: Oct 23, 2008 7:29 am

As mentioned last week, a new little mid-range oriented Radeon card was to be released on Oct 23rd and indeed that has happened today; AMD/ATI squeezes the HD 4830 512MB into its lineup at the sub $150 segment.

As the new entry point for the 48xx series, this card is aimed more squarely at NVIDIAs 9800 GT and looks to give it a real run for its money. It boasts 640 shader processors, a core clockspeed of 575 MHz and memory clock of 1800 MHz.

Looking over the reviews to have hit the web thus far, the card looks to pack quite a punch for the dollars spent. You can see how it shapes up for yourself via the below links :

PC Perspective:
The HD 4830 512MB is obviously a strong contender in this area and puts the GeForce 9800 GT on notice becoming the best card you can get for less than $130. In our gaming tests I saw the HD 4830 clearly outpace the GeForce 9800 GT in both Call of Duty 4 and Crysis, two games that are usually quite favorable to NVIDIA's GPUs and drivers. Bioshock also performed well on the HD 4830 but the tests at 2048x1536 indicate to me that the cards are about equal in this title.
