MSI's Eclipse+ spotted in final dressing

By: (more) | Posted: Nov 20, 2008 1:58 am

We've seen a bit of coverage here and there on MSIs lineup of X58 based motherboards; in particular the X58 Platinum and Eclipse variants which are now beginning to show up on store shelves. But very little has been revealed about the top dog offering, the Eclipse+; until now.

The main difference between the Eclipse and Eclipse+ is that the + features NVIDIA's NF200 chip which is dedicated to controlling the SLI support at the hardware level. Four PCI-E x16 slots also reside on this board. As to whether or not there are worthy advantages of this more pricey offering remains to be seen.

XFastest kindly posted up an image of the final revision Eclipse+ which was spotted at a Core i7 launch the other day. You can see the two big black heatsinks down the bottom which cover the Southbridge and NF200 chip.

Those of you already set on MSI's Eclipse+, you'll be waiting a bit longer yet, but apparently it'll be ready in time for the holidays.
