As mentioned in advance last week, ASUS has now officially expanded its existing R.O.G. Matrix series of graphics cards with two new models, these based on the Radeon HD 4850 and HD 4870. Along with hefty after-market coolers, out-of-the-box overclocks and a bunch of ROG-exclusive technologies implemented, these are far from your average joe reference models.

One feature that's sure to be loved; the new EAH4870 MATRIX/HTDI/512MD5 and EAH4850 MATRIX/HTDI/512M will auto-increase their GPU and memory voltages once entering 3D mode, ensuring the cards stay completely stable with their GPU/memory speeds of 855MHz/2014MHz on the 4870 and 752MHz/2057MHz on the 4850 model.

The only letdown about these cards that I can see is they both run just 512MB of memory. It's a little odd ASUS would go to all this effort, introducing fancy features and overclocks, yet in a time when 1GB of memory proves to help in some of todays games at higher resolutions, detract from their appeal by leaving the memory capacity wanting. We can only hope that these cards will pave the way for some 1GB variants in the near future.
