Foundry CO. not to build FAB in China

By: (more) | Posted: Dec 11, 2008 7:15 pm

Apparently there was (or is) a rumor that AMD's Foundry Company was planning to build a FAB in China. Well if you are one of the ones that heard this you can rest easy.

The Foundry Company has come out and made a statement on this issue saying that they have no plans to build FAB in China.

Looks like the one in New York will be it for now.

Further fuel was added to the conjectural flames after rumours cropped up claiming execs from Daamit FC had recently gone to Shandong looking to poach new local partners, cooperate with local players for foundry services or even build its own fab in the Middle Kingdom.

But according to AMD, it's lies, all lies. Or at least all unsubstantiated conjecture.

The Foundry Co's Head of Communications told the INQUIRER "Our focus at The Foundry Company (after we close the transaction) will be on completing our 300mm expansion in Dresden and breaking ground on our new facility in Upstate NY".
