nVidia rethinking graphics cards

By: (more) | Video Cards News | Posted: Jan 16, 2009 7:56 pm

nVidia is going back to its roots; at least according to Fudzilla they are.

The green team is going to try and simplify the way their cards are built. This means cleaner PCBs single phase power regulation and fewer components on the card.

This means the cards will be less expensive to build, run cooler (and use less power too), and still will be able to maintain performance. This new direction comes after many years of simple refreshes and renaming. Maybe we can expect great things from nVidia in the not too distant future.

Time will tell of the lower cost of manufacturing will translate to the consumer.

From what we've been told, the new cards are going to look very different and for those that were around a few years ago, this is meant to be something of a blast from the past. Much in the way that Intel went back to its Pentium III roots to create the Core 2 series of processors, Nvidia has taken a long hard look at what it did in the past.

What this means is that we should be seeing much simpler PCB designs from Nvidia in the future with far less components on the graphics cards. Expect the three and four phase power regulation to be a memory of the past, as Nvidia is going for a simple single phase power regulation design.
