Lynnfield, Havendale and P55 postponed

By: (more) | Posted: Jan 19, 2009 12:29 am

If you've been looking forward to seeing how Intel's next-gen mainstream platform shapes up, comprising an LGA1160 'Lynnfield' CPU and P55 chipset, this fresh report over at Digitimes indicates that unfortunately you'll be waiting for a while longer than the once expected launch in late July.

Lynnfield/P55 and Havendale postponed

Apparently the giant chip maker has chosen to postpone the launch until at least August/September, this depending on the condition of the financial climate. With reports that both ASUS and GIGABYTE have mass amounts of 4-series motherboards stuck in their inventory and nowhere near enough demand to clear them, it's not surprising Intel is holding off during these difficult economic times.

In other news, engineering samples of Intel's next-gen entry level lineup of processors (known as Havendale) will start being handed out to motherboard makers as early as next month and mass production is said to commence sometime in September/October. However, once again Intel intends to postpone the actual launch/shipping date for these processors as well; sometime around January next year to help clear its current entry-level CPU inventory.
