MSI offers Core i7 buyers a cheaper X58

By: (more) | Posted: Feb 3, 2009 3:44 am

MSI has just introduced a slightly more passive, cut down X58 motherboard to the market which it calls the X58 Pro. With affordability being the main point of focus, this offering doesn't give any SLI support, but the possibility of CrossfireX is very doable with its three residing x16 slots which can be used in a x16/x16/NC or x16/x8/x8 configuration.

Apart from the lack of SLI, all of the other important features are still in place and MSI has stuck with its Gen.2 DrMOS to significantly improve on power efficiency. If it's ATI based cards you plan to run then this board could be a great way to save some dollars which can go to a faster triple channel memory kit or some such.

The MSRP is said to be $190 USD and the board is in direct competition with GIGABYTEs EX58 UD3R. You can find MSI's press release on the X58 Pro here.

MSI, the world's leading motherboard manufacturer, today announced its most affordable one of X58 motherboard, X58 Pro. It offers an innovatively new architecture that adopts the latest Intel X58 Express chipset that supports the latest Intel Core i7 processor, along with ultra-high bandwidth QPI (Quick Path Interconnect) transmission system and high-speed 3-channel DDR3 memory, resulting performance so extreme that has ever seen in motherboards. X58 Pro also has utilized the Gen.2 DrMOS, which introduced exclusively by MSI since the P45 series, improving its power efficiency more than 93% to bring best performance.
