Even faster Core i7 Extreme Edition coming?!

By: (more) | Posted: Feb 3, 2009 9:21 am

It looks like Intel have an even faster Core i7 Extreme Edition processor planned for release sometime in the later part of the second quarter or possibly early third quarter of this year.

Even faster Core i7 Extreme Edition coming?!

Dubbed the Core i7 975 EE, this processor will be bumped up to a 3.33GHz stock speed and shared results of an early engineering sample in action over at the Xtremesystems forums reveals *MASSIVE* overclocking potential (even though the ES chips most always don't fair as well in this regard as the eventual retail versions).

An overclock with the ES processor took it all the way to 5259 MHz with a voltage bump to 1.504v using extreme cooling. This went a long way to producing a whopping 3DMark05 result of 47026 using a pair of HD 4870 X2's in CrossfireX.

The price on this monster is expectedly going to be extremely high, somewhere around the $999 USD mark.
