What is the upshot of all of this? Well imagine not needing to replace the battery in your thermostat or garage door opener or other low power portable device.
If you are like me that seems pretty cool. The chip itself is capable of getting energy from low-voltage sources. These could include solar, electromagnetic, waste heat, and even motion.
