Intel leaves re-negotiation on the table

By: (more) | Posted: Feb 18, 2009 6:12 pm

We reported earlier that Intel had filed a suit against nVidia stating that nVidia does not have a license to make chipsets for its new CPUs (Something that nVidia states they do have).

I mentioned at the time that Intel might be looking to get nVidia into an agreement that counters any costs Intel is incurring with the new SLI Licensing agreement from nVidia. Well Bit-Tech has more news on this score; in an Interview with Intel Spokes Person Chuck Mulloy, Mulloy stated that re-negotiation was one of the options that Intel was looking at if it wins the case.

Intel also went on to say they are not seeking any damages and are only asking for legal fees if they prevail.

Intel leaves re-negotiation on the table

"I wouldn't rule out a re-negotiation if we win the suit," said Intel spokesperson Chuck Mulloy in a telephone interview. "There are options available to us and re-negotiating the license is one of them."

But because one of Intel's allegations is that Nvidia is falsely claiming that it has a license, would Intel terminate the license if it prevailed in this case? "The other options we have are confidential at this time and we're not willing to discuss them," explained Mulloy.

At the same time though, he was also keen to make it clear that Intel wasn't suing Nvidia. Intel is not seeking damages and is merely asking Nvidia to pay its legal fees should it prevail - a standard practice in court cases.
