Thousands of Comcast Passwords Leaked

By: (more) | Posted: Mar 17, 2009 5:14 pm

You know it is never good to find out that your username and password has been compromised but to find it as a list on a website along with a thousand others is downright bad.

But that is exactly what happened to many Comcast users, their user names and passwords were posted on the document website Scribd. Scribd was not even aware the list was there until someone else pointed it out.

Comcast is claiming that the list was compiled by a mass Phishing attempt.
I do not know about you but that just does not sound quite right.

Scribd did not know the list was there until hack Brad Stone at The New York Times warned it about it. Stone was contacted by a Comcast customer who happened across the list after doing a search on his own e-mail address on search engine Pipl.

Comcast spokeswoman Jennifer Khoury told The New York Times that the list was probably compiled from phishing or some other related type of attack and not from inside Comcast.

Email accounts of customers whose data was exposed have been frozen and Comcast is contacting them. More than 4,000 names and emails were exposed according to CNet.
