AMD To Bring Fusion In 2011

By: (more) | Posted: Apr 17, 2009 4:41 am

A leaked slide of AMD's mobile roadmap spells out what AMD has planned through 2011.

Most of what is on the slide is self explanatory, with the highlights all centering around 2011. AMD will be bringing the 32nm Llano APU (Accelerated Processing Unit, aka Fusion) as part of the Sabine platform.

The Llano APU will also get a new socket, dubbed FS1, with the SB9xxM chipset. The big feature to note about Llano's matching chipset is that it will support USB 3.0 and 16 USB ports. One would naturally assume that all of 16 of the USB ports would support the new standard, but that can't be confirmed at this point and time.

One thing that you can be certain of is that the competition between Intel and AMD with the GPU on-die will interesting. While Intel most certainly has the upper hand on the CPU part, AMD made a smart move when purchasing ATI and that gives them the upper hand with the GPU.
