OCZ Z-Drive PCI-E SSD Coming Soon, Details Emerge

By: (more) | Storage News | Posted: Apr 22, 2009 4:25 am

Full specifications for the OCZ Z-Drive that was showcased at CeBIT this year have finally emerged. If the source is correct, OCZ will be launching the Z-Drive in the comming 3-4 weeks.

All three of the drives come with a two year warranty, feature MLC memory, and connect via 8x PCI-E. OCZ will ship the Z-Drive in three different sizes; 250GB, 500GB, and 1TB.

The 250GB drive will provide read and write rates of 450Mb/s and 300Mb/s respectively. The 500GB drive will pull 510Mb/s and 480Mb/s for read and write speeds while the flagship 1TB drive will be a tad bit slower at 500Mb/s and 470Mb/s read and write respectively.

While the performance numbers are impressively high, the price is of the charts. The 250GB model will cost €1400, the 500GB €2200, and the 1TB model will set you back a whopping €3400. These prices are anywhere close to the original €1500 that OCZ said the 1TB drive would cost when it was being shown at CeBIT.

Those that are interested in taking out a small mortgage on their house to stay on top of the bleeding of of technology can head over to Canada Computers. They have the 1TB drive available for what is more likely a pre-order and you can even save a little bit off the retail price.
