AMD And ATI Finally Become One

It has been nearly three years since the AMD/ATI merger that stole the headlines everywhere. Now AMD has announced that the two companies are finally becomming one.

AMD has announced that the company is attempting to streamline the way the two companies create chip architectures as well as defining clearer lines of leadership. While AMD still plans on driving forward with both descrete GPUs and CPUs, the company says it will now be "attacking the market as "one AMD."

As part of the reorganization, AMD will gear its operations in four groups: unified products, advanced technology, marketing, and customer groups. The unified products group is new, and perhaps the most important as it focuses on merging the CPU and GPU into one.

As part of the re-org, Randy Allen - who was in charge of AMD's business of making chips for servers and workstation PCs, an employee since 2001, and a fellow who's always been out there pitching the company's merch to the press - announced he's leaving the company.

"The next generation of innovation in the computing industry will be grounded in the fusion of microprocessor and graphics technologies," Meyer stated. "With these changes, we are putting the right organization in place to help enable the future of computing."
