GIGABYTE details new Smart 6 software and DES2

By: (more) | Software News | Posted: Jun 2, 2009 6:41 am

Computex Taipei 2009: Now that GIGABYTE has its next generation of boards heading to the market it's time to upgrade the software that the company comp compliments its boards with.

The first big thing we saw at the 101 suite was Smart 6. This software is a Windows GUI that gives you the ability to store certain information within the DUAL BIOS chipset. What this gives you is the ability to store passwords as well as monitor system access from a BIOS level which doesn't depend on the OS. If your Windows install dies, you can still recover this data from the BIOS itself once Windows is back onine.

There are six different applets within the Smart 6 software which would be expected from its name, but their functions are extremely impressive.

While at the show we also were shown a new slide of DES2 which has finally evolved to compete with the ASUS EPU6. Where DES and DES Advanced only controlled the CPU power, DES2 is a total system power saving technology to reduce power for the memory, GPU and HDD along with monitoring capabilities.
