The applications both utlize the new protection model codenamed Quorum. Norton is using a new way of detecting the validity of applications through a reputation system in which data is gathered from the millions of users worldwide that choose to anonymously contribute data to the system. Symantec says that they can "statistically infer with an extremely high degree of accuracy the likelihood of an unknown application being good or bad."
