Symbian admits trojan slipped through screening

By: (more) | Video Cards News | Posted: Jul 20, 2009 1:06 pm

Last week there were multiple articles on the Internet claiming that somehow a virus had managed to find its way into the install on a Symbian Based smartphone.

Now we hear that Symbian is admitting that a certain application called "Sexy Space" was actually a bot building Trojan. Of course with a name like Sexy Space I am not overly surprised, after all one of the quickest ways to get malware out is with porn.

The funny part (well not so funny for people that got infected) is that the apps was discovered to have malicious code two weeks ago and the signature for it was pulled. However, due to an error the App was still being downloaded until last week.

Symbian is working to improve its application scanning process as it obviously needs a lot more work to get things right. Of course as smartphones become more powerful and more applications are being written the likely hood of malware for your phone grows as well. It will probably not be long before we will need antivirus for our phones.
