Well O2 was wrong; the new patch that we told you about earlier today is out on iTunes as we speak. Earlier it had been leaked that the new patch would be out this weekend.
But Apple did not want to wait. I have to say that this is both a good thing and a bad. If Charlie Miller is to be believed (and there is no reason not to) then Apple knew about this for a couple of months but made no announcement about it. They waited until they released and demonstrated the flaw before making any move. This is simply not the way you deal with this kind of flaw. Yes they did move very fast once the flaw was exposed and spread around the Internet, but they should have done this sooner.
Still we have a fix now, and that is good. Of course; for those of you with jailbroken and unlocked phones, I would wait to hear from the usual sources before upgrading. It would not e good to find out that in addition to fixing the SMS flaw the exploit that allows jailbreaking and unlocking also got patched.
