PS3 Slim reduces power draw by 50%

By: (more) | Video Cards News | Posted: Aug 27, 2009 5:31 pm

There is some interesting news on the PS3 Slim. Sony has not only reduced the size of the PS3 but they have actually reduced the amount of power used by the device.

This means that the PS3 Slim is not just a PS3 in a new set of clothes. But it is a whole new machine. Sony has added in quite a bit of new features including internal processing of digital audio and has found a way to increase performance and reduce power draw.

If the reports are right this reduction is around 50% of the power drawn by the original PS3.It even beats out the XBoX 360 in terms of power draw while gaming. They did find that as a Blu Ray Player it is rather wasteful on energy using about four times the power of an average stand-alone player.
