AMD shows off their HD5870 X2

By: (more) | Video Cards News | Posted: Sep 25, 2009 3:17 pm

AMD is on a roll recently. They have announced and shown off their new 5870 X2. This king of the hill card is a dual GPU HD5870 with a few extras thrown in.

So what does the 5870 X2 bring to the table besides two Cypress GPUs? Well it has two 256 bit memory interfaces, roughly 3200 stream processors and looks like it will use up a considerable amount of power. To run this you will need a 6 and 8-pin PCI-e adapter.

No official word on clocks for the new card yet. Power and heat are concerns so we might see it clocked slower than a stock 5870. Of course you can expect CrossfireX support (just think of two or three of these in a system). Initial pricing will probably be around $500 with an official launch sometime in November.
