Dell Latitude E6400, E6500 suffering performance problems

By: (more) | Laptops News | Posted: Dec 1, 2009 5:05 pm

Dell is under a tiny bit of pressure as more and more Latitude E6400 and E6500 owners are complaining about performance issues. The problem appears to be directly related to overheating as owners (very upset owners) are saying they are seeing clock throttling (down clocking) of up to 95% of the original CPU speed. Some owners are saying that even under optimal cooling conditions they are not seeing more than 50% of the performance they should.

Dell has not been overly friendly and has even removed some posts and information about the issue. One user was even banned for posting a lengthy PDF detailing the issue. As of this writing Dell does not have a fix for this problem, no other models appear to be affected so far. Unless Dell can find a real fix for this (not just turning up the fan like with the NV GPU problems) and get it into the hands of E6400 and E6500 owners soon Dell could lose sales and revenue during the very important holiday shopping season. After all something like this can easily kill consumer confidence in Dell products.
