Windows 7 Starter has hidden adhoc connectivity

By: (more) | Software News | Posted: Dec 7, 2009 5:06 pm

Since Microsoft debuted Windows Vista, it has seen fit to offer a confusing array of version of its OS that each offer different features. The cheaper the version the more features Microsoft hacks out of the software. Windows 7 also comes in several features with Starter being the cheapest.

One of the features that was thought to have been cut from the cheap Starter version was adhoc connectivity. This feature allows the user to share an Internet connection with other users. The shortcut to the service in the "Set Up a Connection" dialog on the Starter version is missing.

However, PCWorld reports that if you do a simple search from the start menu for "adhoc" you can find the application and it works perfectly. I give this work around about three days before Microsoft issues a "patch" that stops the work around.
