Rugged Bluebird BIP-6000 gets Android

By: (more) | Mobile Devices, Tablets & Phones News | Posted: Jan 12, 2010 5:41 pm

Rugged computers are a must for some industries where the computer user is out of an office in the elements during the day. Your average netbook or notebook won't survive a spill or drop typically. Rugged computers on the other hand can stand up to outdoor use.

SDG Systems has announced that its rugged mobile computer called the BIP-6000 is now available with the Android operating system installed. The handset has a QWERTY keyboard, an 806MHz processor, 1D barcode scanner, and a 3MP camera built-in.

The device has a 3.5-inch touchscreen with a 480 x 360 resolution and integrated GSM voice and 3G data connectivity. The handset will start with Android 1.5, but an Android 2.x update is already planned.
