Netbooks shipments grew 79% in 2009

By: (more) | Laptops News | Posted: Feb 4, 2010 5:13 pm

The economy in America is slowly starting to come back, but it will be a long time yet before things are back to normal. The computer industry was hit hard by the poor economy and while things were bad, the netbook was booming with significantly increased sales.

StrategyAnalytics reports that in 2009 shipments of netbooks grew by a massive 79% to 30.2 million units shipped globally. Many in the notebook industry lamented this fact because an increase in netbook sales meant that the overall average price of a notebook went down significantly.

The research firm reports that the companies with the largest share of the netbook market were Acer, Asus, HP, and Dell. Asus is the father of the netbook movement and was the first to show off a netbook back in 2007.
