The fewer chips that are needed inside a phone or other device that consume power, the longer a device can run on a single battery charge. SanDisk has announced a new storage solution for smartphones and other mobile devices at MWC today called the iNAND Embedded Flash Drive with 64GB capacity.

The new flash drive is designed to allow the phone maker to install the OS, system code, and can be used as mass storage on one device. Since the device is bootable, the phone maker will no longer need separate storage for the system code and user data reducing the number of chips inside the phone.

This allows the phone to be cheaper and use less power. The iNAND uses Samsung's X3 technology with 32nm 3-bit-per-cell NAND flash technology. The iNAND storage device is aimed at smartphones, gaming devices, and other storage intensive devices.
