Seagate brings first 2TB 6Gbps SAS Hard Disk to market

By: (more) | Storage News | Posted: Feb 23, 2010 7:10 am

Seagate has made an announcement this week letting us know it has commenced shipments of the industry's first 2TB 6Gbps SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) Enterprise based hard disk, this falling under its new Constellation ES series.

This new 2 Terabyte drive is of course a 3.5-inch form factor drive working at 7,200RPMs. It includes 16MB of buffer memory (whilst the SATA variant uses 64MB cache) and has a dual processor giving a maximum transfer rate of 150MB/sec. Seagate stamps an MTBF on these drives of 1.2 million hours.

An SED (Self Encrypting Drive) option is also available for users wanting optimal security. The drives come with a 5 year warranty as standard.
