Intel release new family of six-core Xeons to market

By: (more) | CPU, APU & Chipsets News | Posted: Mar 17, 2010 8:37 am

Intel just widened the gap in the server processer market with the introduction of a whole new family of Xeon 5600 series processors using their latest Westmere-EP die.

Like Gulftown (the enthusiast desktop positioned version known as Core i7-980X), these are 32nm processors and house up to six cores, taking over the rein of Nehalem-EP based Xeons at the top-end market segment. The low end of the new Xeon lineup does not yet include the use of the Westmere core, but still gets a 133MHz speed bump.

You can learn more about what the new family of Xeons bring to the table via the streaming processor launch video below :-

Intel's full press release can be located here and there's more of a breakdown across each of the models at the source.
