WD intros new AV-25 series 2.5" HDDs for 24x7 operation

By: (more) | Storage News | Posted: Mar 25, 2010 7:51 am

Western Digital has added a new series of 2.5-inch sized SATA hard drives into its lineup that are ideally suited to systems running 24x7 that always call upon access from their storage subsystem; a perfect example is that of dedicated surveillance systems using AV/DVR applications.

These new AV-25 drives are designed with reliability in mind and provide a Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) of 1 million hours. They run a rotational speed of 5,400RPM and carry a 32MB buffer. In always-on multimedia streaming apps the drives will stay cool and quiet with low power consumption.

The WD AV-25 series' capacities range from 160GB up to 320GB with pricing from $50 U.S. to $80 U.S. - a 500GB model will also be added to the series sometime next month.
