By: (more) | CPU, APU & Chipsets News | Posted: Apr 19, 2010 12:29 pm

Intel has just added a couple more dual-core processors into its high-end Core i5 and budget oriented Pentium Dual-Core series with the Core i5 680 and Pentium E5500.

The new Core i5 680 is of course LGA-1156 based and uses the 32nm Clarkdale core. It operates at a stock clock rate of 3.6GHz (27x133MHz) and a Turbo Boost speed of 3.86GHz. This will make it the fastest dual-core Intel processor made to date. Other specs include 256KB of L2 cache per core and a shared L3 cache of 4MB, Hyperthreading support and a TDP rating of 73W.

The Pentium E5500 uses the older LGA775 package and is based on the 45nm Wolfdale-2M core. It runs at a stock clock speed of 2.8GHz (14x200MHz), has a shared L2 cache of 2MB and a TDP of 65W.

Based on 1000 unit tray quantities, the pricing of the i5 680 and Pentium E5500 comes in at $294 and $75 U.S. respectively.
