Seagate release external storage solutions with upgradeable interfaces

By: (more) | Storage News | Posted: May 7, 2010 12:36 pm

Seagate has just rolled out an entire new family of external storage products that comprise ultra-portable units, desktop drives and an assortment of other accessories.

Dubbed the FreeAgent GoFlex series, there is some new technologies and features found in this series not seen in other external storage products previously. For instance, the GoFlex ultra-portable drive gives the ability to change the interface on the drive. The drive comes stock with a basic USB 2.0 interface, but you can purchase and connect faster interfaces to it if you desire, including FireWire 800, eSATA and also USB 3.0. Seagate has also found a way to make this unit compatible with both PC & Mac, even if the drive is NTFS formatted!

The GoFlex Desk drive is designed to live on your desk and give big capacity external storage access. It too can have its interface upgraded to FireWire 800 or USB 3.0. All upgrade adapters suited to this drive include a capacity gauge that gives the user an easier means of monitoring available capacity remaining on the drive.

For further details including where to buy, you can get to the GoFlex family product page here. The official press release introducing these new products to market can be found here.
