Skype enables group video calling in new beta

By: (more) | Software News | Posted: May 14, 2010 8:32 am

Another beta update from Skype this week has introduced a promised feature that many people have been excited about for a while; group video calling.

This enables the user to enable up to five other Skype members webcams at the same time, giving support for five-way video calls. Of course, both a decent PC and speedy internet connection are required by every user in the call.

While the feature is free in the new beta, Skype says in the future it will become a premium service, requiring payment for the upgrade. Two-way chating and voice only services will of course remain free.

The group video calling feature is said to be in development for the Mac platform as well and should become available later this year.
