New ASUS EeePC boasts USB 3.0 and Optimus technology

By: (more) | Laptops News | Posted: May 19, 2010 3:56 am

The Eee PC netbooks have been a staple of the industry since netbooks came into existence, and the ASUS Eee PC 1215 is looking to make the newest iteration even more powerful than those that came before. With USB 3.0 support for high speed data transfer and Ion graphics to support the onboard graphics you can switch between as needed, this little netbook looks to stretch the limits of what a netbook is capable of.

Many were disappointed to find out the previous 1201 PNs lacked NVIDIA Optimus technology for switching graphics hardware on the fly and this seems to have been addressed to switch between battery saving onboard and the beefier graphics tech for hungrier applications. The Dual-Core Atom D510 is kept on in the 1215. The 1215 has even been streamlined a bit compared to the chunkier 1201 and implemented a slicker brushed metal finish.

No pricing has been released at this point and it's not clear whether the 1215 will be replacing the 1201 or whether both will coexist in the market.
