Faster mobile Core i5 processor coming this fall

By: (more) | CPU, APU & Chipsets News | Posted: May 22, 2010 4:00 am

A minor roadmap leak yesterday has indicated Intels plans to release a new mobile Core i5 processor during the fall. Dubbed the Core i5 580M, this processor is said to take over the position of the existing 540M processor, which will bring with it a clock increase from 2.53GHz to 2.66GHz.

When in Turbo Boost it will see a larger jump from the 540M's 3.06GHz ceiling to 3.33GHz and the IGP also gets a faster clock rate of 766MHz (500MHz on the 540M). However, the new 580M still uses the same 35W of power and 3MB L3 cache.
