MIT invents cheap gesture based computing tech

By: (more) | Business, Financial & Legal News | Posted: May 24, 2010 7:06 pm

Gesture and touch based computing is growing in popularity and in use around the world. Many notebooks and laptops today come with track pads that support gestures and many phones and computers use touch screens as well.

MIT has developed a cheap way to get Minority Report style gesture computing by having the user wear some crazy bright gloves with splotches of color on them. The computer recognizes the colors and can tell what gesture is being made by the color scheme.

The downside to the system is that you have to wear gloves that would have been considered odd in the 80's. The system uses a plain webcam along with the lycra multicolored gloves.
