Gesture control in the works for front facing camera devices

By: (more) | Mobile Devices News | Posted: Jun 9, 2010 3:09 am

Who needs a touchscreen to surf through webpages or flip through photos? The folks at EyeSight Technologies certainly don't. Through the use of the front-facing cameras available on phones like the Evo 4G and upcoming iPhone 4, mobile browsing can become as simple as waving your hand.

EyeSight's touch-free gesture control has been available for Nokia phones since last year, and now offers their two major development tools on Android phones: EyeCan and EyePlay. These two tools allow you to prowse your photo and music collections, move through web pages, and even send text messages or play games by waving your hand in front of both the front and back cameras on the phone. This technology will even work on non-touchscreen phones, allowing even budget handsets to get in on the fun. If the app makers take off with EyeSight's technology, it could make for some interesting and fun developments in the handset world.
