Samsung Captivate coming to AT&T in the coming months

By: (more) | Mobile Devices News | Posted: Jun 18, 2010 12:11 am

Quite a few people believe that with AT&T being the exclusive iPhone carrier in the U.S. that there's no room in their lineup for a high end Android phone to step on the almighty Apple's toes. That rumor has been put to rest with the announcement of the Samsung Captivate, a phone that was originally slated for release by T-Mobile. Described by AT&T as a "Galaxy S smartphone," the device is pretty much a clone of the European Galaxy S with its 4-inch Super AMOLED display, Android 2.1, 7.2Mbps HSPA, and 1GHz Hummingbird processor.

The Captivate also boasts 802.11n WiFi capability, a 5mp camera with 720p HD recording, 16GB onboard storage that's expandable by another 32GB, a 3.5mm headphone jack and built in apps like AT&T Navigator and Swype. No official launch date or price yet, only a vague promise that it will launch "in the coming months."
