Lenovo smartbook based on Freescale hardware surfaces

By: (more) | Laptops & Netbooks News | Posted: Jun 21, 2010 5:02 pm

There were lots of folks who were excited about the Lenovo Skylight smartbook that was shown off a while ago and for a while; it looked like the machine would go into production. Lenovo then killed the entire project.

Lenovo has now announced a similar project that will be a thin smartbook that is based on the Freescale Sabre platform. The heart of the platform is the iMX515 SOC with an ARM Cortex A8 CPU, 32KB of L1 cache and a DDR2 memory controller.

The platform also has a NEON coprocessor, Fast Ethernet, a 2D and 3D GPU core and more. The GPU will support 720p HD video and more. A launch date and pricing for the smartbook is unknown.
