Cisco jumps into the tablet game with the Cius

By: (more) | Mobile Devices News | Posted: Jun 29, 2010 7:02 pm

Cisco, mostly known for their networking gear, has announced plans for an Android based ablet pointed mainly at business users. The Cisco Cius is a 7 inch HD capable tablet with 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, 3G/4G data and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity to cover almost any communication spectrum out there, as well as a 5mp camera for teleconferencing and battery life posted at 8 hours (convenient for your job, huh?).

According to the press release, the Cius is "a first-of-its-kind mobile collaboration business tablet that delivers virtual desktop integration with anywhere, anytime access to the full range of Cisco collaboration and communication applications, including HD video." Testing is planned for the end of this year, with shipping starting in Q1 of 2011 if all goes well. Seeing as how this is pointed at business users, there's no word yet on availability on the consumer level.
