Sony to recall 535k Vaio laptops due to overheating

By: (more) | Laptops News | Posted: Jun 30, 2010 7:02 pm

Bad batteries that overheated and posed a risk of fire were the cause of massive laptop recalls over the last few years. It seems like each time we think that recalls on notebooks are over, something new pops up.

Today reports are coming in that Sony is recalling 535k Vaio laptops sold around the world. The reason for the recall is that 39 owners have reported overheating to the point that the notebook case was deformed by heat.

Sony says there have been no reports of injuries. Strangely, AFP reports that Sony is issuing software fix for the issue. We aren't sure at this point if we are looking at a recall or a software fix.
