Yahoo! brings apps to Android

By: (more) | Mobile Devices News | Posted: Jul 1, 2010 10:40 pm

Yahoo! has announced an Android app for Messenger and email as well as a search function for your phone's home screen. The apps do pretty much exactly what you're used to with few surprises: the Mail app lets you organize, check, and send email from your Yahoo! account, the Messenger app allows you to use Yahoo! IM over your phone to send instant messages or SMS if you live in a country that supports it, and the Search widget lets you use Yahoo! search functions by either typing or by voice.

Yahoo has also launched HTML5 mobile sites for the iPhone and iPod Touch, including one for Yahoo! Mail in 28 languages for over 200 countries. No word on official release dates yet, but they will come via Webkit-enabled browsers "in the near future."
