NTT Docomo of Japan making phones SIM-Free in 2011

NTT Docomo, the leading cell phone carrier in Japan, is planning on making all of their cell phones SIM free in April 2011. Ryuji Yamada, the President of Docomo, told the Nikkei, a Japanese daily paper, that customers will be able to simply switch SIM cards out of their phones if they decide to go with another carrier. Japan's Communications Ministry recently released guidelines in June stating that the country's leading carriers should consider selling unlocked handsets, and this seems to be a step towards that goal.
